<image:caption>Specialties: EMDR Identity shifts in parenthood Parenting young children Trauma Clients: Adults (18+) Education: Bachelor of Arts in English & Philosophy, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, 2010 Master of Social Work, Simmons College, 2014 Licensed School Adjustment Counselor, 2014 Seminar in Field Instruction, Simmons College, 2017 EMDR Basic Training, Thrive Learning PLLC, 2020 EMDR Certified Therapist & Consultant-in-Training, 2023 Bringing Baby Home Educator, 2023 Insurance & Fees: Aetna Blue Cross Blue Shield Optum Tufts $165/hour Message to clients: My passion is helping people recover from traumatic events, improve their moods and self-esteem, and develop lives they love. I particularly enjoy supporting women through major life transitions, such as marriage, pregnancy, and motherhood. These critical and momentous periods can resurface unhealed wounds, which lead to anxiety, perfectionism, shame, and depression. Many times I hear from clients that their experience in therapy was just checking in about their week, and it left them feeling like they weren't making a lot of progress. My approach is to help you identify your needs, apply research-backed treatments, and make sure to regularly assess whether we are on track and that you're meeting your goals. Adding another appointment to your schedule might sound overwhelming; however, my clients often tell me how much they get out of having one hour a week dedicated completely to them. If you feel like any of this applies to you, I do hope you reach out – I would love to work with you.</image:caption>

We do not accept Medicaid plans at this time.) Aetna BCBS Harvard Pilgrim Neighborhood Health Plan Optum Tufts United Healthcare $140/hour Message to clients: I am a Certified Trauma Specialist whose areas of expertise include working with survivors of sexual and domestic violence, physical, emotional, and verbal abuse, neglect, service-related trauma (i.e., trauma connected to military service, or service as a first responder), and discrimination-related stress. I also have experience and enjoy working with members of the LGBTQIA+ community, veterans/military service members, and military families. If you are someone who has been negatively impacted by trauma, and you feel you are ready to create lasting, positive changes in your life, I would love the opportunity to work with you. It is my passion to help survivors heal their wounds and live an empowered life; one that is not dictated by issues such as anxiety or panic, anger or irritability, feelings of guilt or shame, relationship or intimacy issues, low self-esteem or negative self-image, sleep disturbances, or issues related to trust. As a therapist, my aim is to provide a safe, supportive, and collaborative environment where my clients feel comfortable sharing and learning. Together, my clients and I work to develop treatment plans that are tailored specifically to their needs and personal goals. Said plans often incorporate a variety of evidence-based practices designed to help clients move past their trauma and regain control of their life. Some of those practices include: Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) Motivational Interviewing (MI) Written Exposure Therapy (WET) Inner Child Work Mindfulness Art Therapy. According to my clients, I am kind, compassionate, and empathetic. They appreciate that I listen, and that I am attentive, insightful, and knowledgeable. In the past, my clients have said: “Brittany is the best therapist I have ever had! She is extremely present during our sessions, she listens without judgement and not only does she provide constructive advice and solutions but she follows up on everything we discuss. Working with her for EMDR has been very helpful. She makes me feel comfortable in our sessions and is very good at what she does!” “Brittany goes above and beyond to create a safe space for sharing. I know I can always count on her if I’m having a crisis because you can tell she really cares about her patients and it’s not just about the job for her. I wish all therapists were as compassionate, knowledgeable and helpful as Brittany!” “Brittany always has a plan for our sessions but readily pivots if need be, she clearly takes detailed notes, and seems genuinely invested in my progress and healing. 11/10, she’s my fourth therapist and by far and away the best.” “She knows when to go deeper on a memory/feeling. It helps me make connections.” “Brittany is the best. I have done EMDR in the past and didn’t find it very helpful, but with her it has been. She’s the first therapist I’ve had where I feel like we are working toward a goal instead of talking in circles.” “Brittany has been so helpful to us as a couple! She offers a lot of great psycho-educational tools that we’ve used to improve our communication and she is great at listening, reflecting, and helping us solve problems.” Additional Information related to my connection to the military: I am the wife of a combat veteran. After my spouse returned home from a year-long deployment, I decided to give back by volunteering with the unit Family Readiness Group (FRG). During my years in the FRG, I spent time connecting service members and their loved ones to important resources, organizing unit events and parties, and preparing families for potential deployments and homecomings. During my time as a social work student, I interned with Operation Stand Down Rhode Island (OSDRI). While I was there, I spent time connecting homeless and at-risk veterans to vital resources such as food, transportation, housing, and employment.</image:caption>

I also have a heart for working with clients who have experienced feelings of depression, anxiety, life transitions, issues with identity and self-worth, and spiritual abuse or religious deconstruction. Engaging our bodies in the healing process, even in small ways, can lead to deeper healing from the painful emotions and beliefs we’ve held and help us regain access to our most authentic selves. I have specialized training in trauma and predominantly utilize experiential and somatic modalities like EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) and Psychodrama in my therapeutic practice. I also often incorporate mindfulness, expressive arts techniques, and sand tray therapy techniques. Because you are a whole, unique person, we will collaborate together to find the right therapeutic approach that resonates for you. My clients have described me as warm, caring, steady, and genuine. It is my hope that, through our work together, you experience feeling more embodied, empowered, and compassionate with yourself and others. Whether you’re in a season of transition or pain, you want to more fully process your story, or you desire a deeper connection with your true self, I would be honored to join you.</image:caption>

I am passionate about a holistic and integrative way of therapy, looking at a person for all they are. I am dedicated to an anti-oppressive, antiracist, trauma-informed approach. I believe in radical self-love, authenticity, and self-acceptance. I specialize in supporting adults with complex trauma and experiences of abuse, addiction, relationship difficulties, family conflict, low self-esteem/body image, women’s issues, and LGBTQIA+ identity issues. You may be experiencing high stress and unsure how to manage it. You may be seeking to learn more about yourself and find ways to reconnect with yourself, explore your relationship dynamics with others, or find more ways to cope. Therapy with me feels like exploring together & uncovering parts of yourself, collaboratively seeking self-acceptance, love, and reconnection with these parts, and finding healing from life’s experiences to discover a more grounded sense of self. In therapy, we will explore more than just your mental health, like your spirituality, nutrition, exercise, sleep habits, social/work-life balance, childhood, connection to self, or daily stressors. We are all nuanced, unique, intersectional, and multilayered living beings. I lead with nonjudgment, walking alongside you, believing every human has autonomy over their bodies and lives. I support and meet my therapy participants in the present moment and find it useful to bring awareness to the body and breath while maintaining an anti-oppressive and trauma-informed approach. My therapy participants are experts in themselves, and my role is to support you in discovering self-love, tuning into yourself, and accessing your intrinsic wisdom and inherent self-worth. It is an honor for me to hold space for you so that you can re-connect to your true Self. I have a three-year clinical mental health counseling degree specializing in holistic studies from Lesley University. I am actively working toward my hours for licensure (Licensed Mental Health Counselor LMHC) by 2026. For the past two years, I have supported adult women with lived experience in the commercial sex trade and its associated exploitation. I have training in various theories and calibrate my approach based on your needs each session. Techniques I use include mindfulness-based therapy, culturally sensitive therapy, internal family systems, polyvagal theory, existential therapy, feminist therapy, gestalt therapy, humanistic therapy, motivational interviewing, person-centered (Rogerian), attachment theory, co-dependency theory, acceptance and commitment therapy, and psychodynamic therapy. On a more personal and less serious note, I enjoy playing with my cat, Fitz, who may make special appearances in session, moving my body through running, yoga, Pilates, and weightlifting, cooking new Pinterest recipes, spending time outdoors preferably in the mountains or at the beach), traveling new places, thrifting, and connecting with fellow humans. My therapy participants appreciate that I am collaborative, laid-back, authentic, kind, respectful, and understanding. If you’re ready to learn about yourself, reach out. I’m here for you and excited to support you!</image:caption>

I believe that therapy is a partnership, and I’m committed to walking alongside you as you work on your healing journey. My approach to therapy is Holistic, which means we focus on deeply understanding all parts of you—to help you feel more connected to yourself and empowered in your life. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, and I’ve been working in this field for four years. To support my work I’ve also attended seminars on The Psychology of the Chakras: Yoga Philosophy meets Western Psychology in May 2019 and An Introduction to Integral Psychology: Using Integral Theory to Guide Treatment in September 2019, held by RI Mental Health Counselors Association. I work with adults and couples navigating anxiety/stress, spirituality, emotion regulation, life transitions, self-awareness, self-esteem, self-care, self-exploration, relationship issues, grief/loss, shame/guilt, depression, and trauma. Many of my clients come to therapy wanting to better understand themselves, improve their relationship with themselves, others, and life, or explore a holistic/mind-body connection. You might feel like you’re stuck in patterns you don’t understand or are searching to understand what is behind your actions and feelings. Maybe you sense your past is influencing your present but don’t know how to start unpacking it. You could be overwhelmed by stress and worry or feel like your emotions are running your life, wanting more balance. Your relationships may feel unbalanced, or you might notice the same patterns repeating with others. Whatever brings you here, I’ll meet you right where you are and help you take the next steps forward. In our sessions, you’ll find a compassionate, non-judgmental space where your experiences are welcomed and validated. We’ll work together in exploring how unconscious patterns and past experiences shape who you are today, gaining insights that foster greater self-understanding and empowerment. I’ll support you in navigating your emotions, learning to see them as valuable guides rather than sources of distress, and develop a healthier relationship with your emotional experiences. We’ll look at your thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and experiences to understand their interconnectedness. We’ll explore how early experiences in your life may influence your current relationships and work to understand these dynamics, and build healthier connections with yourself and others. Our work may also include strengthening the connection between your mind, body, and spiritual aspects to find balance across all areas of your life. My hope is to help you feel more connected to yourself and to those around you, fostering healing.</image:caption>

My name is Sarah (they/them or she/her). I enjoy working with individuals (adults, teenagers, and children), couples, families, and groups from a multicultural, transfeminist, gender-affirming, and trauma-informed lens. I primarily draw on humanistic, systemic, relational, and somatic therapies, and enjoy using modalities such as Internal Family Systems, narrative therapy, and attachment and mindfulness based approaches. I have completed levels 1 and 2 of the Gottman Training for Couples Therapy, and am affirming of all relational styles and orientations. I hope to support my clients in growing their self-compassion, reclaiming their stories, embodying their strengths, and in realizing their dreams, desires, and purpose. I am a good fit for clients who are seeking to deepen their self-awareness and learn new skill sets, so they can build strong, intentional, and lasting relationships with themselves and others. I specialize in supporting those who are struggling with relationships, intimacy, loneliness, isolation, anxiety, depression, attachment trauma, grief, creative blocks, and existential concerns, and especially love working with those who prefer to take a holistic approach to counseling. Clients typically appreciate my presence, compassion, insight, and creativity in the therapy room. Having worked for several years, as a social-emotional learning and mindfulness teacher with youth in grades 1-10, and as a case manager supporting under-resourced families, I enjoy supporting young people who are struggling with issues around trauma and loss, emotional regulation, anxiety, identity, and difficulty in school. I am client-centered in my approach, though often invite parent and family involvement, and primarily use child-led play therapy when working with youth ages 4-11. Grounded in my own spiritual and creative practice, I treat my work as a commitment to collective liberation, and see counseling as a ritual where the therapist and client(s) collaborate to create a safe container where limiting narratives and patterns can be unraveled, understood, and unlearned. I look forward to connecting and learning more about you and what you're needing support with. Please don't hesitate to reach out.</image:caption>

No one starts therapy when things are good. If you are on this page and considering therapy, you most likely are not in the best place emotionally and know something needs to change. Therapy is a place to begin the process of understanding what you are experiencing and what you would like to change. While I practice a range of treatment modalities, my fundamental belief is that therapy only works if you generally like and trust your therapist. The relationship between a client and a therapist is unique. It is the one place where you can speak your authentic thoughts without any judgement. It is a place where you can practice saying that you are not okay and ask for what you need. My role as a therapist is to use a range of tools and treatment interventions to support you in understanding what you need to feel “better” in this moment and moving forward. In that process, we often explore early experiences that contributed to your beliefs, values, and understanding of yourself. I look forward to meeting you- yes you- your authentic self even if you are scared of it. I pride myself in finding unique ways to help you find your authentic self- sometimes it is understanding what it is about a certain song that got you crying or a certain social media video that made you think. To help you be authentic, I believe it is important for me to be authentic. Of course, I am not going to share my personal life in detail. I will share the real reason I need to reschedule a session, because I have (late dx) ADHD and I am going to be real. I invite you to ask me questions about the process, about why I am asking a certain question. I believe no topic should be off limits, as long as it is discussed in a respectful manner. Maybe you were raised not to talk about sex, drugs, or rock and roll. Or maybe you were told we do not discuss politics or religion. Well, we can talk about these things because your values, beliefs, and wants and needs are part of your authentic self.
