Therapy for the Contradictions of Motherhood

Motherhood/parenthood is full of unique and contradictory experiences.

You may be struggling to make sense of the following feelings:

  • Both desperately wanting to have a baby and fearing you made a mistake

  • Both wanting to keep your baby close to you at all times and just wanting to be left alone

  • Both joy and awe at the life you created and grief over the life you had before

  • Both exhaustion/just wanting to sleep and longing to get out of the house

  • Both longing to go out and do adult things and guilt over taking time for yourself

We get it, and we’re here to help.

Motherhood/parenthood is a time of deep transformation, where old wounds often resurface.

These can look like:

  • Feeling like a failure

  • Constantly comparing yourself to others

  • Grieving parts of your own childhood

  • Difficulty asking for/accepting help

In addition to all of this, many new parents come to us navigating grief over the lack of a “village” in their lives, difficulty in their relationships with their partners, and stress over balancing work responsibilities with the demands of parenting. We work with moms/parents to get to the core of these experiences, so true healing can begin.

Our therapists use a combination of approaches, such as EMDR, art therapy, and Internal Family Systems (IFS) to help parents identify patterns, learn coping skills, and reclaim joy and connection.

Yes, you are a parent, and you are a human being worthy of the care you provide to others.
